Repair vs Replace What To Do With Your Broken A/C

Posted on August 13, 2015

Commercial air conditioning repair

Nothing makes a summer more miserable than a busted air conditioning unit. If your air conditioning system breaks down or fails to perform, you may be wondering what your options are. Old, busted air conditioners can be taken care of in two ways: AC repair and AC replacement. Here are some deciding factors to help you choose between these two options.

Air Conditioning Repair

If the cost of air conditioning repair is less than half the value of what it would cost to replace, you will more likely benefit from having your air conditioner repaired. Air conditioners that are less than 10 years old will more than likely only need repair. Repair is easier for newer models due to advances in technology, and an excess of replacement parts. If you plan on moving in the next couple of years, plan on doing minor air conditioning maintenance before you sell your home.

Air Conditioning Replacement

If your air conditioner has been having consistent issues, or is beyond repair, it’s time to look into getting your unit replaced. While replacing an air conditioner seems to be the more expensive choice, it could save you money in the long run. Old air conditioning systems are often outdated and inefficient, especially when compared to the newer models. These air conditioning systems are highly efficient, and are capable of reducing your monthly heating costs. Air conditioning replacement is best for long-term solutions, as new system is also much less likely to need constant AC maintenance.
