Could Your Home’s Roof Be in Dire Need of Repair?

Posted on August 4, 2014

How to install a new roof on a house

Asphalt is the most popular of the roofing materials, and for good reason — it’s affordable, economic and attractive on pretty much any home.

However, asphalt roofing is also the most susceptible to damage, whether it’s environmental damage or just aging.

So if your home has asphalt shingles, it’s essential to be able to identify signs of damage and wear and tear on this otherwise versatile and economical roofing material.

If you’re unsure if your home needs roofing repair, just take a look at these four signs that your asphalt roofing needs to be repaired by a local roofing company:

1. Curled shingles: Perhaps one of the most common signs of a home needing roofing repair, asphalt shingles typically curl from everyday wear and tear along with a few other potential causes like excessive heat. If you don’t have a roofing repair company replace these shingles with the right roofing supplies, you run the risk of costly structural damage and even rot within your home because the shingles are allowing water to seep into your house through the roof.

2. Missing or broken shingles: Broken and missing shingles also allow water to seep into your home on a structural basis and should be addressed by a roofing repair company as soon as possible to ensure further damage doesn’t take place.

3. Wrinkled shingles: Normally the result of poor workmanship during the roofing installation, wrinkled or “buckled” shingles are extremely vulnerable to wind and ice damage, and as such should be replaced by a qualified roofing repair contractor.

4. Visible decay: When one or more of your roof’s shingles is generally falling apart, it will be noticeable. Cracks, chips, peeling and other signs of decay are clear indicators that your roof needs to be repaired. Reference links.
