Basement foundation repair

Have you been finding little puddles of water in your basement? Have you noticed water marks on your ceiling? If your ceiling or basement leaks when it rains, it is important to find the cause of the problem. Water can cause all sorts of expensive damage to your home, and since it encourages the growth of mold, it can even be detrimental to your health. Home foundation repair is an extensive and expensive process, so it is better to fix the source of the water damage before it gets too bad. If you are seeing the signs of water damage in your home, but you don’t know exactly where it is coming from, the following issues could be the source of the problem.

  1. Faulty Gutters –If your gutters are not working properly, rain and snow water from the gutter can leak into your basement, causing all sorts of damage. To prevent this from happening, make sure that your gutters are pointed away from the basement and ensure that your gutters are not clogged with leaves and sticks. If there is a mechanical issue with your gutters, have it fixed before it lets water into your house.
  2. Plumbing Issues – Water leakage could also be coming from within your house. If there is an issue with your plumbing, it could be the source of water damage. If you notice water around the house, check to make sure your pipes are all operating smoothly.
  3. Bad Landscaping – Does your yard tend to flood frequently? If so, this could also be affecting the inside of your house. If water is building up around the foundation of your home, it could eventually start to leak in to the basement, which is the room most likely to experience water leakage. One form of exterior foundation waterproofing that can help is a French drain system. Installing a French drain system ensures that water is directed away from the foundation of your home.

If you’ve been experiencing signs of water damage, do your best to find the source of the leak before you need an entire home foundation repair. As with all things, it is best to locate and fix the problem before it gets too bad. To learn more, read this.
